Homecoming parade - Sept. 17

Join us on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 10 a.m. We welcome all R-STEM families to come watch and participate by wearing white. This helps us find you in the crowd—the staff will decorate your shirt using chalk! Expect route information next week.

Drop off and Pick up Information

Arrival Bus Riders: Buses drop off students in the parking lot near Elliott Ave. Staff greet students and support students as they walk to class.

Parent Transportation / Walkers: Vehicles can drop off students in the main parking lot in front of the R-STEM building. Any student who arrives after 7:30 a.m. will need to request a pass from the main office.

Dismissal Bus riders: Buses pick up students in the parking lot near Elliott Ave. Grades 3-5 will dismiss at 2 p.m., grades PreK-2 will dismiss at 2:05 p.m. Buses leave at 2:12 p.m.

Parent Transportation / Walkers: For safety reasons, all individuals should have a dismissal ID number. If you do not have one, please check out in the main office. The dismissal ID number should be visible to staff in the car window.

Special Note: If there are any dismissal changes at the end of the day, please notify the main office no later than 1 p.m. Student safety is our most important priority and when adults come and try to pick up students we want to make sure that the right adults are picking up the student. This is very difficult to do when buses need to leave to transport students home and cannot verify identification.

Attendance

If your child is going to be absent or tardy, please call 612-798-6000 and select option 1. Please provide your child's name, teacher and reason for the absence. Attendance is important for student success, we ask that families schedule planned vacations for times when school is not in session. For prior approval for a family vacation, please email Amy Winter at amy.winter@rpsmn.org

More information to come, we are working on setting up a new method to communicate absences!

STEM PTO INFO

The First R-STEM PTO Meeting is Tuesday, Sept. 13

Our first R-STEM PTO meeting of the school year is coming up next Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 6:30 p.m. This year, we will offer both an in-person and virtual option to attend meetings. It's a great way to meet other families at R-STEM and get involved in supporting our students, teachers and community!

The in-person location for PTO meetings is the first floor school community room at R-STEM. You can find the Zoom info for attending virtually in your email (Sept. 9 Weekly Newsletter). For security reasons, we will not post virtual meeting links on the public website.

Club's Choice Fundraiser kicks off!

Our annual PTO fall fundraiser is now in full swing! Club's Choice offers a wide variety of food, decor and gift items that you can sell to family, friends, co-workers and community members. All students should have received a Club's Choice packet during Connect & Assess meetings or on the first day of school.

Every item sold through Club's Choice brings money back to the PTO, which in turn uses it to fulfill teacher wish lists, buy t-shirts for every student and staff member at R-STEM and fund activities that the PTO sponsors throughout the year.

Our online store can be reached at: www.clubschoicefundraising.com/register with school code: RICH52. Participation in the Club's Choice fundraiser is completely optional, but we encourage everyone to participate.

If you would like to donate money to R-STEM’s PTO, but do not wish to participate in the fundraiser, there are three options for donating:

  1. Write a check directly to R-STEM PTO
  2. Put cash in an envelope and send it with your child to school (please label the envelope PTO Donation and include your student's name)
  3. Online at: https://richfield-stem-school-pto.square.site/product/clubschoice/19?cs=true&cst=custom

We have a special reward for those donating money. For every $50 your child gets donated directly to the R-STEM PTO, they will earn one token to be used at the book vending machine at the school. 1 token=1 book.

The Club's Choice fundraiser runs now through Tuesday, September 20. Item pickup takes place on Tuesday, Nov. 1, from 3-6 p.m. at R-STEM.

Donation request: Mirrors for Affirmation Stations

The R-STEM PTO is supporting a project to put new affirmation stations in every classroom. These stations consist of mirrors surrounded with positive affirmations for our students to see and repeat back to themselves.

Here's where we need your help! We are looking for approximately 40 lightweight mirrors that are large enough for students to see themselves (so no hand-held ones, please!) If you have a mirror that you are no longer using, please consider donating it for this project! Mirrors can be dropped off at the R-STEM front office.Affirmation station

Donation request: Items for STEM and Media Center

Our R-STEM & media center teams are stocking up on supplies for some fun projects! But they need your help! If you're cleaning out kids' rooms/closets/toy chests, consider donating the following:

  • Duplo or Lego bricks with eight or more studs (the circular bumps on the top of the brick used to connect them together)
  • Mr./Mrs. Potato Heads and accessories
  • Play-Doh tools (rollers, molds, cutters, stamps, etc.)
  • LiteBrites with colored pegs
  • Clean stuffed animals or characters that represent characters from books (Clifford, Pete the Cat, Ada Twist, etc.). They'll be used for displays in the media center on top of the shelves or in some of the cut-outs in the displays by the media center hallway.

You can bring donations to the main office and they'll be given to Kathie Glick and the rest of the R-STEM team.

Volunteers wanted for Media Center projects

Interested in volunteering at R-STEM? The media center team is looking for some volunteer support for the following projects:

  • Adding stickers to a new special collection of books. The timeline is to complete the project before the media center opens to students at the end of September.
  • Adhering labels to book bags (one per student) to be done before book check out near the end of September and delivering class sets to mailboxes or teachers.
  • Editing paperback easy reader books' information in our library system. Volunteers will receive training for this project.
  • A few regular volunteers to help shelve returned books and organize shelves. This is an ongoing need all year. Any amount of donated hours would be greatly appreciated, but ideally 1-2 hours/week.

If you're interested in any of these projects, please fill out this Google form or contact Kathie Glick, R-STEM coordinator at kathie.glick@rpsmn.org

Birthday Signs from R-STEM

Did you know you can wish your child a happy birthday with special R-STEM yard signs? It's a fun way to celebrate them and support the PTO! Volunteers will set up the signs and pick them up. You can order 10 or 20 signs to be placed in your yard. Please give us at least two week's notice! Click here to sign up for birthday signs
