The 2026-27 District calendar is here!

At the school board meeting on Tuesday, January 20, the board approved the 2026-27 calendar as it was presented by the calendar committee.

The calendar committee, composed of parent and staff representatives from all schools, met four times this year, in addition to several subcommittee meetings. For the 2026-27 calendar, they gathered input from hundreds of staff, community members and students, balancing diverse priorities to create a recommendation that met the majority’s highest needs.

The top priorities identified were a two-week winter break, a student end date in the first week of June, and a strong commitment to instructional days. The calendar was designed with these highest priorities as the primary focus while accommodating other requests as much as possible.

In addition, because Labor Day fell later than usual in September, we sent a districtwide survey to gather feedback on whether to start school before Labor Day. The feedback we received indicated that a majority of families and staff preferred starting early rather than extending the school year into the second week of June.

Key details in the final calendar include:

  • Students in grades 6-12+ will start the school year on Monday, Aug. 31, and students in grades PreK-5 will start on Tuesday, Sept. 1.
  • Families with children in grades PreK-5 will receive information over the summer about Connect & Assess meetings that will take place at their child’s school between Thursday, Aug. 27 and Monday, Aug. 31. These brief meetings are an opportunity for you and your child to meet one-on-one with your classroom teacher prior to the start of school. You can ask questions, tour the classroom and begin to build a relationship with your child’s new teacher.
  • The last day of school for the 2026-27 school year will be on Friday, June 4, for students in grades PreK-8 and Thursday, June 3, for students in grades 6-12+.
  • Richfield High School graduation will take place on Wednesday, June 2, 2027.
  • We do not include testing dates on the PDF calendar, as these can vary and do not apply to all students or all grade levels. You can find information on testing and assessments on the Testing & Assessments web page, which is updated annually and includes the dates and student grade level for each assessment.

We want to thank all of the members of the calendar committee for their hard work.
